Reactive halogen species, not considered in climate models, significantly affect the future prediction of methane (a powerful greenhouse gas) by reducing its loss, increasing its lifetime, burden, and radiative forcing.

Graphene promises many fascinating applications, also in advanced batteries. Its interaction with Li is therefore essential. We study the real-time dynamics of Li deposition on “native” epitaxial graphene islands on Ru(0001)

CoFe2O4 is a hard magnetic ferrite with promising applications in spintronics. This requires thin films of high quality. We report on the sucessful growth and characterization of epitaxial CoFe2O4 films on Pt(111).

Measurements show elevated levels of molecular chlorine at the coast of Hong Kong. These high levels of reactive chlorine are explained by the photodissociation of particulate nitrate and subsequent oxidation of chloride.

Model results show that previously unconsidered iodine chemistry can significantly impact ozone loss at the lower edge of the Antarctic stratospheric ozone hole. Iodine also increases the ozone hole area and mass deficit.
