Seminario impartido por Ángel Cuesta, Universidad de Aberdeen

Interfacial electrochemistry aims at understanding the structure of the electrode-electrolyte interface and the interfacial charge transfer processes happening therein with the greatest possible detail, i.e., at the atomic level. Such information is crucial for the development of electrochemical devices with applications, amongst other, in energy conversion and storage. In my lecture, I will first give an overview of the fundamental problems dealt with in my group and of the techniques we use to tackle those problems. Then, I will show an example of applied research based on the knowledge acquired from that fundamental work, describing an acid-base redox-flow battery that uses hydrogen as the charge carrier without consuming it and can both generate power and desalinate water during discharge.
