2017 - 2018

Organizers: José Miguel Mancheño y Esther Rebollar

On January 10th we will have a seminar by María Vallet Regí, from Departamento de Química en Ciencias Farmacéuticas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Hospital 12 de Octubre i+12 and Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina (CIBER-BBN)

Nowadays it is common the use of biomaterials in patients who need them for the repair or regeneration of parts of their body. This was unthinkable 60 years ago. The manufacture of spare parts for the human body, by traditional methods or by tissue engineering or cell therapyis common practice in biomedical research.

Nanomedicine has also made its incursion into the world of the biomaterials, and in particular in the drug release with a targeted therapy that improves their pharmacological profile, achieves a selective release to target tissues, manages to overcome the biological barriers and reduces the possible side effects of the drugs.

It is possible to fabricate intelligent nanosystems capable of carrying different agents in a selective manner towards the area to be treated, and release them in response to an external stimulus.

If the nanosystem is selective, smaller doses may be used, arriving just where necessary.

SEMINAR’S DATE, TIME AND PLACE: January 10th 2018, 12:00h, Assembly Hall of IQFR-CSIC, C/ Serrano 119, Madrid

 SPEAKER: María Vallet Regí
